We will pick you up at Rome airport and after a short orientation and hotel check in, we will get the day started. Our afternoon city tour will pass by the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and many other highlights of ancient Rome, finished by a classic 3 course Italian dinner.
We will start the day exploring the Vatican and Michelangelo’s world famous masterpieces, including St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. After lunch in a piazza, the rest of the day will be filled with the opportunity to look at some of Raphael’s artwork at the Pantheon. We will stop for a popular street food snack called suppli before visiting another architectural achievement by Michelangelo - Capitoline Hill.
After a short drive to Florence we will visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with Brunelleschi’s world famous Duomo. Everyone will be given a stipend to seek out one of the many old town Cafes for lunch. We will spend the afternoon in a city tour of Florence with a beautiful evening boat ride to finish. Family style dinner will be served at a nearby restaurant.
After a leisurely morning, we will visit the Accademia Gallery including Michelangelo’s David, followed by a tour of the Uffizi Gallery, which will give us the chance to see the world’s richest collection of renaissance paintings and sculptures. We will finish the day with a short visit to the church of Santo Spirito to see Michelangelo’s Crucifix.
Today we will visit Italy’s stunning coastline with it’s five fishing towns of Cinque Terre. Everyone will have the opportunity to hike or travel by train from town to town, and to enjoy a relaxing swim in the mediterranean sea.
No trip to Tuscany would be complete without a wine tasting. On the way to Venice, we will give you the opportunity to find the perfect Italian wine to bring home as a souvenir. We will finish the day with a walking tour of the beautiful channels and streets of Venice, as well as a look at the architectural challenges of a sinking city.
To avoid the crowds, we will start the day early with a visit to the Campanile di San Marco, where you will have a great view over Venice. After a Visit to the Basilica di San Marco and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, with its countless renaissance paintings, we will board a boat for a tour of the Grand Canal. The evening will allow free time to explore and have your own choice of dinner.
Today we will visit the Italian capital of culture - Mantua. It is a renaissance town built on an island in the middle of 3 artificial lakes for its protection. After a walking tour of Mantua’s marvelous history and architecture, we will continue to Nice on the Côte d'Azur.
In Nice, we will see some beautiful examples of modern art. We will start the day with a stroll through the peaceful gardens of the Marc Chagall Museum. Next, we will visit the small town of Antibes with the famous Musée Picasso. The afternoon can be used to explore the nearby principality of Monaco or to relax on the beach. We will meet again for a group dinner in the evening - seafood recommended!
Following a drive to the fortified medieval town of Carcassonne, we will explore its countless walls and watchtowers on our walking tour. Everyone will then have the chance to enjoy some french cheese, baguette and a beverage while watching the sunset from one of the towers.
After a morning drive to Barcelona and welcome tapas for lunch we will pay a visit to Barcelona’s world famous opera house, the Palau de la Música, and its famous architecture and Catalan artwork.
Today we will follow Gaudi through his modernista Barcelona and visit some of his most famous buildings, like the Sagrada Familia - his still unfinished church, and the Casa Milà. After a lunch at the Boqueria Market, one of Europe’s largest food markets, we will finish the day with one of Gaudi’s masterpieces, the crypt at the Colonia Güell, and a farewell dinner.
We will say good bye at the Barcelona Airport. If any group members choose to continue their travel, we will be available to assist in planning.
